A MAN is in hospital with "significant injuries" following an attack in which he was reportedly punched and targeted with bricks.

Essex Police are investigating an assault which is said to have taken place in Silks Way, Braintree, at 2am this morning.

According to the force, a man in his 40s was attacked by a group of people who threw bricks at him and punched him.

As a result of the incident, the man sustained several significant injuries, but is in a stable condition in hospital.

An 18-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of robbery and a 43 year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and GBH.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We believe this was a targeted attack and we do not believe there is a risk to the wider public."

Anyone with information about the assault, or who has CCTV, dash cam, or Ring doorbell footage, is asked to call 101 quoting incident 154 of 25 October.
