A CONWY-BASED coffee and book shop is doing its bit to care for those struggling during the two-week 'firebreak lockdown' period.

L's Coffee and Book Shop, located on the town's High Street, is providing several options to kids, families and the elderly who may currently be finding it difficult during lockdown.

Shop owners Gaz Lavin and Lisa Walker (below) have introduced a swap, shop and drop system whereby people can come into L's and be provided with what they need.

Explaining the way it was set up during a live video on the shop's Facebook page, Gaz said: "Here at L's, we are providing many options. So, the first one being that kids between four and 13 years old can be provided with one free meal a day to be collected from the shop.

"We're also offering a nice swap, shop and drop table. We have loaded up tables here with a load of goodies, essential food items, not just for the kids but for those families who are going to be struggling through these tough times over the next few weeks.

"Our idea basically is that you can come in drop food off for other people or come in and swap food items that you are not using at home, for ones you may want or need. Feel free to come in and take what you need from our table.

"We know things are difficult in the next two weeks for everybody and baring that in mind me and Lisa decided to make a decision We have decided to support all the families who are struggling with kids meals through this half term lockdown. Were not just limiting this to kids and families though, it's to anyone who is struggling, so the elderly too."

Gaz says deliveries can also be made by L's during this period to anyone who wants to be more 'discreet'.

He added: "As a community we need to stick together and this feels like a way that we can help. It's nothing to be ashamed of, we're all going through it."

Some of the food for L's Coffee and Book shop has been brought from Co-op in Llandudno Junction, whilst others have been handed in through donations.

Gaz says the support from the community so far has been 'amazing' and added that it was 'touching to see how close the community has got with both young and old getting onboard with the project'.
