People are asked for their views on plans for the redevelopment of the Whipps Cross Hospital site.

Barts Health NHS trust is urging people to have their say on its plans to build a new hospital in a "garden setting".

The site would also include homes, health and wellbeing facilities and links to Epping Forest and town centres around it.

There will be public meetings and an online survey to gauge opinion before a planning application is submitted next year.

The trust says the hospital will have the same core services, including A&E and maternity, but also be a centre of expertise for the frail and elderly.

It says wards will be arranged around a central hub, with more single rooms and garden terraces providing therapeutic benefits.

New access routes with more emphasis on walking and cycling are also proposed as part of preparations for a planning application to be submitted next year.

Redevelopment director Alastair Finney said: “Our vision for the future is of a hospital in a garden, and a garden in the hospital. We want to hear what local people think about our emerging plans for the estate and its environment so we ensure they meet the needs and aspirations of patients and the public for years to come.”

Virtual public discussion meetings will take place on Tuesday, December 1 from 6pm to 7pm; Wednesday, December 2 from 2pm to 3pm and Saturday, December 5 from 10.30am to 11.30am.
