A number of patients at a mental health unit are self-isolating following a small Covid-19 outbreak at the site.

One ward at Kingfisher Court in Radlett discovered a small number of people had tested positive for Covid-19 near the start of the week.

The mental health unit says that patients in the ward affected are being appropriately cared for, as they dealt “swiftly” upon the discovery of the infections.

It is unclear how many patients were infected and how many close contacts are self-isolating as a precaution.

A spokesperson from the Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust, that runs the centre, said: “We have robust infection prevention and control measures in place to manage these issues swiftly and to ensure that we meet the needs of all people in our care and that they are appropriately cared for.

“We continue to follow national guidance, and the small number of individuals affected are self-isolating with all potential contacts traced and informed, as required and in line with the guidance.”

According to the trust, the infection prevention and control procedures such as service users swabbing on admission to wards and self-isolating before their results means potential infections should not be far spread.

Patients self-isolating will continue to have their individual mental and physical health needs met.
