IT has been revealed that Southend Council has not ruled out resurrecting controversial plans to widen Priory Crescent despite similar proposals triggering treetop protests in 2005.

These snaps show protesters who demonstrated their opposition to a proposed multi-million pound plan to widen the busy Priory Crescent section of the A1159 road over the Royal Saxon tomb in Prittlewell.

Camp Bling was established in Priory Park in September 2005 and quickly became a thriving community, with a collection of huts made from wood and tarpaulin.

The camp became the protesters’ home for close to four years but, as it was announced plans to widen the road had been abandoned in April 2009, the camp disbanded three months later.
