THIS miracle dog from Southend has overcome adversity and beaten cancer a whopping five times.

Shannon Gemma Ravenhill’s Staffordshire bull terrier, Bonnie, has seen one of her legs and her tail amputated after being diagnosed with the disease but continues to fight on.

Bonnie has battled against breast cancer three times and gone under the knife after tumours were discovered in her right paw and at the base of her tail.

Shannon admits she is overjoyed after Bonnie was given the all clear for a fifth time after the amputation of her tail.

She said: “Bonnie got cancer for a fourth time in March 2020 but we were then hit by the news that a lump had been found near the base of her tail in August.

“We got it checked and then we were told it was cancer again. She needed her tail to be cut off and I was in bits.

Echo:

“I was so upset and angry that this keeps happening to her because she doesn’t deserve it and is just an innocent bundle of joy.

“I kept thinking of when her leg was amputated and it felt like more and more of her is being cut away.

“It was devastating thinking of her going through another operation and not having her tail to wag anymore.

“But there’s still so much life in her and she went through the operation.

Echo:

“She has come through so much and I’m so proud of her.”

Bonnie’s first breast cancer diagnosis came in February 2018 and, after undergoing surgery, was hit with another blow eight months later.

Shannon added: “Bonnie didn’t just have seven tumours on her breasts, she was also going through a phantom pregnancy and was on the verge of getting a fatal disease in her womb.

“The vet said she needs a hysterectomy and the tumours cut out as soon as possible.

“She underwent the operation and she was fine. I couldn’t believe my little girl survived it all.”

One of Bonnie’s legs were amputated after an aggressive form of cancer was discovered in her back right paw in March 2019.

Echo:

But Bonnie’s big brother Bambam has played a key role in keeping spirits high throughout the battles against the disease.

Shannon admitted: “Bambam has always been a massive help after each of Bonnie’s operations.

“He really is an amazing big brother and it’s been so fascinating to watch how he cared for her. After each operation he has shown he knows exactly what care Bonnie needs and what to do.”
