Questions have been raised as parts of Watford has remained closed following a recent flooding.

Water Lane was shut for two whole days after flooding over the weekend (from January 30) and is continuing to cause traffic disruptions.

While the area is prone to be flooded from time to time, with it being next to the River Colne, parts of the road has been closed off to cars and pedestrians.

According to the Environment Agency, river levels in the River Colne have been falling on Monday (February 1) but remain high following last week’s heavy rain.

The agency warns that flooding to low lying land and roads close to the river is expected to continue into the rest of the week.

Central Watford and Oxhey ward councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst, who acknowledges the river level is high at the moment, is pushing for answers to find out why the water still hasn’t been cleared, and when the public can expect the road to reopen.

The councillor has also raised attention to the water pumps in place by the Colne, questioning why it was not successful in preventing the situation.

Further rain is forecast on today (February 2), and it is possible that river levels may begin to rise once again, however the Environment Agency does not currently expect levels to exceed those seen in recent days.

More updates on the situation at Water Lane are to come today.
