A developer has unveiled revised proposals to redevelop a former bus garage in Garston.

Fairview New Homes is on course to submit a new scheme to demolish the former Arriva garage in St Albans Road and replace it with 127 flats.

The developer has previously seen plans for 165 flats on this land knocked back by both Watford Borough Council and a government planning inspector.

Both had concerns about the size of the proposal, while some councillors had concerns about the amount of affordable housing proposed, and the loss of a locally listed building.

Fairview has been away and drawn up new plans, which it is now putting out to consultation with neighbours to the bus garage before officially submitting a new scheme.

The new plans see a reduction in height of some of the buildings, particularly those closest to Codicote Drive.

Initially, two part-four, part-five storey buildings were proposed but now five separate blocks are proposed, set further back from St Albans Road, with the tallest building of five storeys in the middle of the development. The buildings closest to Codicote Drive would be three storeys.

There is no mention of any affordable housing, while parking has reduced from 150 to 94 spaces, along with bike storage facilities.

New pedestrian access to Garston Park is still proposed, with Fairview adding almost three quarters of residents who responded to its pre-application consultation agreed the site was suitable for residential development.

Mark Jackson, planning director at Fairview New Homes, said: "We remain committed to delivering homes on this brownfield site, with these revised proposals acknowledging and responding to the feedback received via the previous application process.

"This consultation is an important step of the process and we look forward to hearing feedback and answering questions."

The online consultation will run for two weeks from March 15 to Monday 29.
