This great picture captures a busy market day in Watford town centre almost a century ago

The Watford Observer has again teamed up with Watford Museum and is delighted to showcase some pictures from the museum's archive, starting with this picture from its Bob Nunn Collection showing Market Place in the High Street from c1924.

Although the height of the buildings is different today, the shape of the market place is recognisable.

The museum's volunteer archivist Christine Orchard explained: "Market Street is to the right between the three-storey Rose and Crown hotel and two-storey Compasses pub.

"On the opposite of the market place, the façade of the tallest building is little changed and is now where Côte Brasserie is."

Watford Museum is currently closed under lockdown restrictions but you can still pay it a virtual visit at www.watfordmuseum.org.uk or find the museum on Facebook and Instagram @watfordmuseum
