Hertfordshire County Council says it does not have a date for when a busy dual carriageway will fully reopen to drivers.

One lane has been coned off on the A41 between Kings Langley and Hemel Hempstead, reportedly since March 10.

Drivers have taken to social media to question the council about why the lane closure is in place because they have not seen any workmen.

One person wrote on Twitter: "One lane blocked on A41 Watford to Hemel since 10 March, no sign of any roadworks to date. No temp speed limit in place. A tiny highways sign saying works due between 24th-31st March. It's a nightmare in the afternoon. What's going on?"

Another wrote: "What is happening with the A41, northbound, between Kings Langley & Hemel Hempstead? One lane has been shut for a week but there is no sign of any roadworks. This is causing delays at rush hour."

A third said: "@Herts_Highways can you advise why there is a lane coned off on A41 from M25 J20 to A414 Hemel since the weekend? Zero work happening and no information."

The council has responded to some users stating the lane closure is in place for "safety reasons".

A council spokesperson told the Observer: "The lane closure on the A41 northbound is in place for safety reasons following subsidence in the carriageway. We are currently awaiting confirmation of a date when this will be repaired."
