A controversial width restriction in Watford is due to be suspended next week while roadworks take place.

A notice from Hertfordshire County Council in this week’s edition of the Watford Observer states that an order has been granted for the restriction in Woodmere Avenue to be removed while utility service works are carried out.

The order takes effect from Monday and could last for up to 18 months. However, the one.network website states that work is due to start on Monday and will last for five days.

The restriction is well-known in the town because of the number of bollards drivers have to negotiate and it has often resulted in damage to vehicles.

Meanwhile, motorists in North Watford may also face disruption next week as a section of St Georges Road and Fuller Road is temporarily closed for sewer cleaning.

The order is scheduled to come into force on Wednesday and one.network states delays are likely until 3.30pm on Friday.

During this time traffic will be prevented from using that length of St Georges Road/Fuller Road from a point 55 metres north-east of its junction with Maude Crescent north-eastwards and north-westwards for a distance of approximately 93m.

The notice also gives details of more temporary closures in Watford and surrounding areas that are set to come into force at the end of April, as long as orders are approved.

Two sections of Watford Field Road are due to shut to vehicles from April 26 while works take place.

The affected parts of the road are from a point 167m north-east of its junction with Tucker Street north westwards for a distance of approximately 47m, and from a point 78m south-west of its junction with Lower High Street north westwards and south westwards for a distance of approximately 120m.

The county council is also seeking an order to temporarily close part of Loates Lane, Watford, to take effect from April 27.

However, if this gets the go-ahead the one-way system from the junction with Queens Road south-westwards to the junction with Lord Street will be suspended while the works are in progress.
