Two teenagers are in police custody after police found suspected firearms inside a vehicle in North Watford this afternoon.

Officers were on patrol at around 2.20pm (Tuesday April 13) when they spotted a "suspicious" person getting into a taxi in The Harebreaks.

Before police brought the taxi to a stop in Longspring, one of two passengers was seen leaving the vehicle.

Hertfordshire Constabulary says a search of the taxi uncovered an offensive weapon and suspected firearms.

Police then carried out a search of the wider area, looking for the person seen leaving the taxi.

A huge police presence was reported by a member of the public in St Albans Road this afternoon, involving "around eight police cars".

Police have confirmed the presence in St Albans Road was connected to the stop on the taxi.

  • An 18-year-old man from Bushey and a 17-year-old boy from Watford were both arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearms, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of cannabis. They both remain in custody at this time.
