Recently it emerged there are around 10 empty units in the town centre but the majority are currently under offer.

Local business chiefs hailed the interest as a reflection of the area's resilience in the challenging times.

The large white unit on The Parade was a late night bar called On The Pond.

The landlord has converted the upper parts to housing and used the ground floor as a storeroom during the work.

The commercial premises on the ground floor are now being divided into three units, all of which are exchanged or under offer.

Watford Borough Council’s managing director Donna Nolan said: “Covid showed us how much people value the town centre as a space to relax and socialise, which we have recognised with our vibrant outdoor events programme set to lift off this summer.

“Watford Market is also getting a makeover and has welcomed a number of new traders.

“We have so much to offer as a town and because of this we’ve managed to continue to attract new shops and businesses despite the pandemic."
