Intrigued children have kept their eyes on their classroom around the clock as their new classmates rapidly developed.
After receiving ten eggs and hatching equipment, pupils at Roydon Primary Academy, in Roydon, set up a live stream to monitor the new arrivals.
The egg cam enabled the whole school community to watch from home as the eggs hatched and chicks emerged.
The school will keep some of the chickens to support in further learning across the school.
Teacher Enzo Vullo said: “This captured the attention of our whole school community, with children and families discussing the chicks at the school gate.
“It has been a valuable exercise that has allowed us to cover the ‘understanding the world’ section of the Early Years curriculum.
“It also provides us with a unique experience to explore high quality children’s text relating to chicks and chickens and introduces the children to non-fiction books to continue to develop their love of reading and books."
