What would you do if you were told that you had won millions of pounds after playing the national lottery?

There are certainly a lot of things you could do and perhaps among them might be to buy the car you always wanted or house you have dreamed of living in.

Either way, winning big on the lottery is something most of us can only dream of, but for the lucky few that dream becomes reality and overnight they become set for life.

And Camelot’s Andy Carter has revealed what people end up doing with their winnings if they are fortunate enough to have the winning ticket.

The Senior Winners’ Advisor at The National Lottery told the Watford Observer that the first things most people choose to do is put money aside for the future, pay off their mortgages and put aside money for their children.

But he said that winners also slightly upgrade their lifestyle such as going on more holidays - travelling in first class - and going out to eat more.

Mr Carter also said that most people spend their money gradually over the years and may for example move to a new home later down the line.

It comes as the hunt to find the owner of a winning lottery ticket bought in Three Rivers and worth £10,000 per month for 30 years continues.

The ticket scooped the top prize in the Set For Life draw on May 6, matching the five main numbers of 2, 7, 25, 40 and 46 and the Life Ball of 4.

Saturday, June 5, will mark 30 days since the draw and is the deadline for anyone not in possession of the ticket, for whatever reason, but who believes they have a genuine claim to make one in writing to Camelot.

Mr Carter said: “It’s important that any player who is not in possession of their ticket, for whatever reason, but who thinks they have a genuine claim to the prize notifies us in writing by 5pm on Saturday 5 June, 2021 at the latest.

“What a start to the next 30 years it would be for the lucky ticket-holder if they were to check their tickets and claim their prize - they really would be set for life. We have our fingers crossed that we’ll soon be welcoming our latest Set For Life winner into the lottery winners club.”
