FREE bicycle health checks and services are being offered to get residents on their bikes.

Every other Monday through to the end of August the team from Dr Bike will be at St Margaret's Church, in Stansted Road, Berechurch.

Experts will be on hand to check over residents' bikes as well as completing minor repairs free of charge.

The Dr Bike team will also be teaching people how to carry out basic bike repairs themselves, including fixing punctures, adjusting brakes and other general maintenance tasks.

There are also plans for a number of led bike rides in the area designed to help youngsters new to cycling, nervous riders and those wanting to refresh their skills.

The events are part of the Big Bike Revival which is funded by Cycling UK and delivered by Colchester charity en-form and Eco Colchester.

Ward councillor Dave Harris (Lab, Berechurch) said: "This is a great opportunity for families to sort out their bikes, brush up on their cycling skills, and get ready for a summer of fun cycling together.

"I will be looking to assist with funding as well by using my council locality budget."

The next sessions takes place on Monday, June 28.
