At a Cabinet meeting earlier this month, members agreed a new strategy which identifies five key priority areas for prosperity and success in Watford.

This includes developing a thriving and productive economy, supporting the town's key sectors, supporting communities to access opportunities, creating a new economic future for Watford town centre, and creating the right environment for sustainable growth.

The strategy has been prepared through dialogue with partners and stakeholders who will be key to ensuring its delivery.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: "It is vital that we do all we can to make sure that everyone in the town has a job. Watford has a strong, diverse business base and enterprise culture, a young and well-educated population, a strong supply of jobs with a high number of knowledge-intensive jobs and a strong track record of attracting private-sector investment. We recognise that we cannot take this success for granted.

"A significant number of our residents have lost their jobs due to Covid. This strategy puts in place a plan for how we tackle the current issues facing businesses and individuals so that our town can continue to thrive and offer opportunities for everyone.

"I am looking forward to working with partners including Hertfordshire Growth Board, Hertfordshire LEP, West Herts College and many more to support all of our residents with their employment and business endeavours."
