Thunderstorms and potential flooding are expected today as a weather warning continues.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning across a large region in England including Hertfordshire, of thunderstorms and potential flooding continuing from today (June 18) until Saturday (June 19).

According to the forecaster, there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lighting strikes, hail and strong winds.

Delays and road closures are expected from any sudden flooding or severe lighting strikes, and there could be difficult driving conditions.

There is also a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services from the disruptions.

Current forecasts show that there is at least a 90 per cent chance of precipitation today from the morning up until 4pm, with the rain expected to continue at a calmer rate at 5pm.

Heavier rain will pick up again from 6pm until 7pm, and then general rainfall is expected up until 11pm.

Saturday however is forecasted to be a dry day up until 5pm, as rainfall is expected between 5pm to 8pm, and later again at 11pm.

While there is no weather warning issued for Sunday, it is expected to rain throughout most of the day.

The day has already begun with disruptions, as bus provider Uno reported its 614 route has been diverted due to a fallen tree – meaning it cannot serve at Barnet Spires, Union Sreet and Barnet Hospital.

There have not been any known disruptions more locally to Watford at the moment, but anyone wishing to travel today is advised to expect some delays through traffic or public transport.
