*Story updated: Police have since identified the two people and requested the appeal be removed.

Herts Police have issued a CCTV appeal after a 15-year-old boy was beaten up by 10 teenagers in a park.

The victim was with friends in Verulamium Park, St Albans, when the group repeatedly punched and kicked him in the head while filming it.

Police have since released CCTV images of two people they believe were in the park at the time and could help their enquiries.

The victim's mother Kate Leather, 47, told the Observer she has had numerous people say they believe they have seen the pair in Watford.

Youngsters often go to the park via the Abbey Line, which connects Watford Junction to St Albans Abbey.

Following the assault, which happened at around 4.30pm on Monday June 14, Ms Leather also claimed lots of people had warned of other attacks and bike thefts in the park.

She said: "There are currently no routine patrols, despite this group causing chaos and terrifying younger kids with unprovoked attacks over the last few weeks.

“My son was lucky that he didn’t sustain life threatening injuries from this assault.

"Their next victim might not be so fortunate.”

Herts Police subsequently put regular patrols in place during evenings for two weeks and said it would review that going forwards.

Ms Leather added: “It’s disturbing knowing that a gang is going around doing whatever they want and will happily kick a child in the head – it’s very concerning.

“It highlights the need for more police presence.”
