Traffic in Watford is facing disruption from next week when a busy road is closed while roadworks are carried out.

The Watford Observer reported earlier this month plans to temporarily close a section of Cassio Road to allow utility works to be carried out.

A notice from Hertfordshire County Council in this week’s edition confirms the temporary closure order has been made and the one.network website states the work is due to begin on Monday and is scheduled to continue until August 20.

The road will be shut to vehicles from the junction with Upton Road south-eastwards to its junction with Marlborough Road, a distance of approximately 114m.

The alternative route will be via Cassio Road, A412 Rickmansworth Road, the Ascot Road roundabout, A412 (Rickmansworth Road/St Albans Road), A411 (Beechen Grove, Exchange Road), Vicarage Road and A4178 (Wiggenhall Road/Farraline Road/Fearnley Street/The Hornets/Merton Road/Cassio Road) or via A4178 (Cassio Road/Merton Road), Vicarage Road, Merton Road, A411 (Exchange Road/Beechen Grove), A412 (St Albans Road/Rickmansworth Road) and A4178 Cassio Road.

Elsewhere in Watford, an order has also been made to close Langley Way from its junction with Hempstead Road south-westwards to its junction with Cassiobury Drive roundabout, a distance of approximately 417m. These works are due to start on September 15 and will last for a week according to one.network.

Harwoods Road is also set to be shut from its junction with Vicarage Road north-westwards to its junction with Whippendell Road, a distance of approximately 405m. No date has been given yet on one.network when these works are due to begin.

That is not the case in The Avenue where a three-day closure is due to begin on Sunday for utility works.

During this time traffic will be prevented from using the eastbound carriageway from a point 20m north-west of its junction with A411 The Avenue south-eastwards for a distance of approximately 20m.

The county council is also intending to make orders to close several other roads in the area for works, including in Croxley Green, Kings Langley, Chorleywood and Rickmansworth.

If made, this order will come into force on August 16 and will involve the closure of:

  • Rousebarn Lane, Croxley Green, from its junction with Lodge End north-eastwards, south-eastwards and eastwards to its junction with Gade Bank, a distance of approximately 350m.
  • South Way, Kings Langley, from its junction with Upper Highway south-eastwards to its junction with Essex Lane, a distance of approximately 150m.
  • Stag Lane, Chorleywood, from its junction with Rendlesham Way south-eastwards and north-eastwards to its junction with Shepherds Lane, a distance of approximately 450m.
  • The Drive, Rickmansworth, from its junction with Goosefields north-westwards to its junction with Spencer Walk, a distance of approximately 348m.
  • Valley Road, Rickmansworth, from its junction with The Drive north-westwards to its junction with The Climb, a distance of approximately 430m.
