Both people involved in the stabbing at Rickmansworth's Premier Inn this week were hotel employees, police have confirmed.

A woman in her 30s was stabbed in the back on Monday evening after which a man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Arun Purja, of Kempton Avenue in London, was then charged with Section 18 grievous bodily harm on Wednesday morning.

The 27-year-old appeared at Hatfield Magistrates' Court the following day but has not entered a plea.

He has been remanded in custody and the date of the next court appearance has not yet been set.

A Herts Police spokesperson has confirmed that both Mr Purja and the alleged victim, a woman in her 30s, worked at the Premier Inn.

The hotel has been contacted for comment.

A spokesperson previously told the Watford Observer: "We are currently assisting the police with their investigation but as it is an on-going investigation we are unable to comment any further."

Police officers were called to reports of the incident at around 6pm on Monday and upon arrival found a woman with a stab wound to her back.

She was taken to hospital for treatment but the injury is not believed to be life-threatening.

Police then searched the area and a 27-year-old man was located in Rickmansworth Park before he was arrested.
