A Sri Lankan restaurant was told ‘major improvement’ was necessary after a food hygiene inspection.

Establishments in Watford have continued to impress inspectors, as recent ratings issued are mainly ‘high’ or ‘very high’

However eateries outside of Watford Borough Council have shown some alarming inspections in recent months, including the Idli restaurant in Bushey.

The Food Hygiene Agency reports that the inspection of Idli at Bushey Hall Road on June 17 found ‘major improvement necessary’ after getting a rating of 1.

Specifically, the management of food safety was the main area of concern that needed ‘major improvement’, whereas the hygienic food handling and cleanliness of facilities was ranked ‘improvement necessary’.

Inspections are to make sure that food hygiene is up to code and holds good food safety standards.

Ratings on a scale are then issued to rank the hygiene standards at the time of inspection.

Five is top of the scale, meaning the hygiene standards are very good and fully comply with the law and zero is at the bottom of the scale, meaning urgent improvement is necessary.
