Traffic is once again building around The Dome roundabout as motorists continue searching for fuel.

The Watford spot has been attracting congestion since Friday with the Sainsbury's, Shell and Asda garages all becoming congested.

Queues began to form early this morning - particularly around Shell - while Asda was far less busy due to a traffic system it put in place.

One motorist told the Watford Observer they had been struggling to find any open stations, adding: "I'm unable to do my job and serve clients if I've got an empty tank.

"So I need fuel. It's not too busy so I am filling up."

The queues into Sainsbury's are causing delays on the roundabout itself and the approaches to it are also slow.

There is also lots of traffic in St Albans Road coming from the Shell garage.

It comes following Watford mayor Peter Taylor calling for essential workers to have petrol stations designated to them as the crisis threatens to continue.

He said: “I have been contacted by several key workers who are struggling to get fuel for their jobs. I have raised this with @hertscc and asked them to consider designating some petrol stations for them.

“I would encourage everyone to be considerate of others & only get fuel if you need it.”
