Young Muslims took part in a 24-hour charity football marathon to raise over £11,000 for both domestic and international Covid-19 relief efforts.
The Young Muslims from Watford, a local youth group, partnered up with Watford FC Community Trust and Railway Children to host the football marathon which will fund emergency supplies, medication and care to those impacted by Covid-19.
In attendance were Watford legend Luther Blissett and MP Dean Russell, among several other guests.
The event was open to everyone to take part and 30 teams were involved in raising money.
It took place at the Dome, Watford’s training ground, over last weekend (November 13 and 14) and it is hoped that the funds will mean “no child is left behind” as the world starts to recover from the pandemic.
Jack Miller, head of Railway Children, explained that the money raised will go to the most vulnerable children in the UK and India and make a lasting impact.
The regional youth leader of the Hertfordshire Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA UK), Saeed Nazir said: “Young Ahmadi Muslims alongside other members of the local community took time out of their weekend to try and make a difference to the lives of the many children that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This was a great opportunity for us to fulfil our Islamic duty of serving the needy and to follow in the noble example of the Prophet Muhammad, may peace and blessings be upon him.”
