The organiser of an anti-lockdown movement who broke Covid restrictions by organising a protest during the third lockdown has been told to pay a fine.

Cambel McLaughlin, 27, of Scottswood Road, Bushey, is the organiser of ‘Jam for Freedom’, a freedom music group that says it unites musicians and creatives “in defence of mental health, liberty and medical choice”.

However specifically during lockdown, the group would host protests through the form of music performances in a push against Covid restrictions, general lockdowns and Covid vaccinations.

It continues to perform musical protests across the UK to this day.

The group has had support from activist Piers Corbyn – who has been the face of many anti-lockdown and anti-vaccination demonstrations in the UK.

The Bushey organiser appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on November 5 this year for one of the demonstrations that took place at Bishops Park in Fulham, London on February 27, 2021.

This was when the UK was under its third national lockdown and both Bushey and London were declared ‘Tier 4’ areas, which enforced people to stay at home and only allowed people to meet up with one other person in public outdoor places.

The court said he appeared for holding or being involved in holding a gathering of more than 30 people outdoors in a Tier 4 area without reasonable excuse.

McLaughlin pleaded not guilty on June 10 this year, but he was found guilty on November 5.

As a result, he was made to pay a £812 fine for breaking the Covid restrictions.
