Television viewers were left baffled and bemused after the village of Abbots Langley was given not one but three mentions on the BBC's national weather forecast.

Friday night's bulletin was even more confusing because the presenter had been giving viewers a detailed forecast for Scotland at the time - when Abbots Langley is a minimum of 300 miles away.

Quite how Abbots Langley appeared on the map remains a mystery but it certainly didn't go unnoticed with thousands and potentially millions tuning in at the time to BBC One.

Even presenter Chris Fawkes seemed slightly puzzled by the graphic. After the BBC's News at Ten Programme ended, Mr Fawkes was giving the nation a taste of what to expect over the weekend, particularly in the wake of Storm Arwen.

The graphic was zoomed in on Scotland and showing areas which were likely to experience windy weather and for some reason, the Hertfordshire settlement of Abbots Langley - with a population of around 20,000 - was unexpectedly marked not once, not twice, but three times.

Two were up in Scotland including one right up on the northern coast and the other where the city of Inverness lies. The other mention was in England, south of Newcastle.

Neil Miles tweeted: "Blimey that's some strong wind. Just look what it's done to Abbots Langley", while Guy Lambert said: "Blimey, Storm Arwen must be bad. It's split poor old Abbots Langley into 3 and blown it from Hertfordshire to Yorkshire and North East Scotland @bbcweather".

One user suggested a copy and paste may have been used to format the name locations but someone had forgotten to change to text.

Even so, we're not quite sure the whole of the UK needs to know what the weather is like in Abbots Langley, even plotted correctly on the map.

And for those in any doubt, we can confirm there is only one Abbots Langley, which we'd quite like to keep for ourselves.
