A group of friends are taking part in a half marathon in memory of a husband and dad who died from cancer.
The Croxley Green community were shocked and saddened to learn Keith Akers passed away earlier this year aged just 53.
He was being cared for at home by Peace Hospice Care having been diagnosed with cancer but died on September 24.
In a tribute to his life and to show their gratitude for the nurses who looked after Mr Akers, a group of friends have decided to take part in the Watford Half Marathon in February in aid of the hospice.
The hospice gave Mr Akers medication and also provided comfort to his family.
The event is being supported by Mr Akers' wife Claire and daughter Skye with a target of £2,000 set. So far, just over £1,000 has been raised.
Steve Maye, who came up with the idea to do a half marathon, said: "Keith had a huge heart and made friends with everyone he met. He was a massive Liverpool fan and I hope he will be smiling down to see us all running in red in his honour."
The team have been motivating each other with advice from physios Sarah Thompson and Adam Hinton.
Sarah Hanison, who is taking part in the half marathon, said: "This distance will be a big challenge for me, but knowing I am doing this for Keith and the Peace Hospice, and the incredible support of this group has really spurred me on."
