People will not need to pay hundreds of pounds to see Elton John perform at Vicarage Road after a backlash over ticket prices.

The club's honourary life president will perform at the Vic on Sunday, July 3 and Monday, July 4 as part of his worldwide Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour which begins next year and will carry on into 2023.

But people shared their anger on Twitter on Wednesday after seeing that tickets for the concerts on Ticketmaster were being listed for over £300.

However, promoters for the concerts Marshall Arts have made clear that standard tickets will not cost that much.

They said tickets range from £45 to £150 and that the ticket will be more expensive the closer you are to the stage.

Tickets were first made available to Watford season ticket holders in an exclusive presale event which people had to be invited to.

And since 10am this morning (Thursday), anyone is able to purchase tickets, with the lowest prices on Ticketmaster currently costing £115.14.

Marshall Arts also said the very expensive tickets listed on Ticketmaster yesterday were VIP packages that were available to purchase at the same time as the presale for the standard tickets.

In a brief statement on the Hornets website, Sir Elton said his relationship with the club he used to own "meant the world" to him and that he had to include Vicarage Road in his list of shows.

“I simply had to play Vicarage Road a final time as part of my Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour," he said.

“My relationships with the club, with the fans, the players and the staff over the years have meant the world to me. Through the good times and the bad, Watford has been a huge part of my life.

"I love the club so dearly, and have had some of the best days of my life in those stands - these shows are going to be so incredibly emotional, and to spend them surrounded by my fellow Watford fans will be wonderful. We’ve been on quite the journey together. Come on you ‘Orns!”
