A pedestrian who was left critically injured after being hit by a car and thrown against a bus remains in hospital, police have said.

The man in his 30s was struck by a silver Honda Civic while crossing Bushey High Street on Boxing Day, before colliding with a double-decker bus he was intending to catch.

The emergency services, including a vehicle from the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, attended at 7.13pm and the man was taken to hospital in a critical condition suffering from head injuries.

Hertfordshire Constabulary confirmed today (January 5) that the man remains in hospital but did not give any update on his condition.

A 33-year-old man from Ruislip who was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving in connection with the incident has been released without charge, police have confirmed.

A second man, 31, who handed himself into police on December 30 in connection with the incident, has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Bushey High Street was closed in both directions and taped off by police for several hours as collision investigators inspected the scene.

Shortly after the collision, Sergeant Russell Jones, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire road policing unit, said: "We are supporting the man’s family at this exceptionally difficult time.

"I’m appealing for anyone who saw what happened at 7.13pm in High Street on December 26 or anyone who may have caught the collision or the lead up on their dash cam.

"Please get in touch so we can find out exactly what happened yesterday."
