Home Farm Hub on Aldenham Estate granted permission

The Home Farm Hub on the Aldenham Estate is now set to provide a "thriving" place to meet and work with more than 15,000 square feet of workspace as well as outdoor space.

Councillors on Hertsmere Borough Council's planning committee were largely in favour of the scheme during a meeting discuss the plans last night (January 13).

Humphrey Gibbs, who manages the estate with his sister Jessica, said: "We are delighted that Hertsmere have approved this exciting project and we can’t wait to restore and repurpose the farm for the benefit of the local business community and future generations."

Mr Gibbs continued: "Home Farm was originally built as a 'model farm' to showcase innovative farming practices, so it feels quite apt that it should now be used by ambitious local businesses.

"This regeneration and landscaping work will preserve the ecological integrity of the farm and help it to thrive for years to come, and we hope to be able to attract residents with a similar passion for the great outdoors."

The scheme designed by Thomas Croft Architects will see some post-war barns demolished and replace with timber structures, but Victorian buildings will be retained.

The plans include landscaped courtyards and gardens designed by Tom Stuart-Smith Studio, a three-time Best in Show winner at the Chelsea Flower Show.

The focus on workspace intends to follow a new "hybrid, sustainable working model" in response to the pandemic.

Along with space to work, the hub will also include a cafe and a studio for exercise classes, as well ass access to the private Tykes Water Lake and Home Farm's glamping accommodation.

The Aldenham Estate plans to begin construction of Home Farm Hub in autumn 2022 with completion in 2024.
