A four hour planning meeting ended with a cheer tonight as residents celebrated the end of a two year battle to rebuild a housing estate in Bushey.

Approval to demolish flats on Girtin Road, Munro Road and Gulland Close and replace them with 48 houses and 142 flats was granted at a Bushey and Aldenham planning committee meeting tonight after previous deferred decisions, cancelled meetings and months of waiting.

The amended application by Paddington Churches Housing Association included a smaller central housing block and more back gardens.

It gained support from the majority of Hertsmere Borough Councillors on the committee, including those who had previously objected to the plan.

David Pitney Hall, Development Manager for Paddington Churches Housing Association, said he was delighted with the decision and looked forward to getting started with the regeneration of the area.
