A bright green streak was reportedly seen over the skies of Watford last night in a meteor sighting.

The UK Meteor Network, recorded 94 fireball reports last night (May 16) roughly before 10pm.

Only one official picture was picked up by the network, however many eagle-eyed people in Hertfordshire, North London and Buckinghamshire managed to capture a quick snap of the spectacle.

While none of these pictures show the fireballs over Watford, some people in the area have said they managed to see it pass by the town.

One person on Twitter claimed they saw a “big green meteor” at about 9.45pm.

Another person, Ali Fitton, tweeted: “Did anyone else see that huge meteor or asteroid overhead about 40 mins ago. Travelling roughly east to west before fizzling out?.... PLEASE tell me I’m not the only one who saw it!”

John Norman wrote: “Fun!! Just saw a bright green streak of light, like a fireball  over the south of Watford, travelling east to west. It was quite bright!”

He added that it was quite low and “pretty horizontal” to the sky.
