A large amount of counterfeit goods including clothing, footwear, and electronics have been seized.

An operation was carried out at Bovingdon Market on Saturday May 28 by Hertfordshire Trading Standards with support from Hertfordshire Constabulary and the Anti-Counterfeiting Group.

Hertfordshire County Council, which is responsible for the trading standards department, says goods were seized from a number of stalls and investigations are ongoing.

Andrew Butler, director of regulatory services and community protection at the council, said: "I am pleased to confirm that a planned, anti-counterfeiting operation was successfully carried out following complaints about the selling of counterfeit goods at Bovingdon Market.

"Officers seized a large amount of counterfeit goods, including clothing, fashion accessories and a small quantity of electronics, from a number of stalls, with investigations into the stallholders now ongoing. Further action will be taken as appropriate following the investigation."

Mr Butler added: "We consider this operation a huge success as it not only removed counterfeit goods from the open market, but due to our presence in the market – and the ongoing investigations into those found selling counterfeit items - will also hopefully deter others from undertaking similar action."

The operation was not the first of its kind at the market.

Bovingdon Market is due to close on August 29 this year after Dacorum Borough Council granted permission for film studios to be built on the former airfield site.

The market is hoping to relocate to an alternative site.
