Twelve people were arrested and eight vehicles were seized during an operation targeting criminals travelling between London and south west Hertfordshire.

Hertfordshire Constabulary says Operation Conarium, which lasted from June 7-17 was aimed at catching the likes of robbers, burglars, thieves, and those involved in fraud.

The operation, which was carried out in partnership with the Metropolitan Police, took place across Hertsmere, Watford, and Three Rivers.

Overall, 42 vehicles were stopped, with eight seized, and multiple traffic offences reports issued for driving offences.

There were 12 arrests including for burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of drugs and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

PC Brad Glover, from the Hertsmere Operation Scorpion team, said: "We know criminals cross borders to carry out crimes before heading back home again and we are constantly linking in with neighbouring police forces to arrest these offenders.

"We were also able to gather vital intelligence which helps us to plan future operations and target those who travel into Hertfordshire to cause harm."
