Wherever you look in Watford, it seems like something new is on the horizon.

There’s no doubt the town is going through quite a change with thousands of homes under construction.

And many, particularly drivers, will have spotted a new development that’s ramping up pretty close to the heart of the town.

We're talking about the construction site in Clarendon Road, next door to the Jurys Inn, and that backs onto Beechen Grove towards the ring road.

Those who have followed developments closely in recent times will know exactly what's to come - but if you don't, it's going to be a building that will dominate Watford's skyline.

Work at this site actually began last year when an office building known as Hannay House was demolished.

Now an empty space and a pile of rubble, in a couple of years' time, the site will look a whole lot different.

Developer Regal London expects that its 25-storey tower - known as The Clarendon - will be ready for residents to move into in 2024.

In all, there will be 168 privately owned flats along with a cinema and gym for residents with 24-hour concierge.

There will also be 150,000 square foot of office space in a building that will be Watford’s tallest once complete – before it is eclipsed by the 28 storey tower in St Albans Road.

By October last year, Regal London said it had already secured £5.8 million in pre-sales in The Clarendon and said it hopes to attract first-time buyers and employees working locally.

The developer will reportedly be paying Watford Borough Council around £1.6 million to support affordable housing elsewhere in the borough, with no affordable housing provision being offered in The Clarendon.

The developer added it expects up to 380 full time jobs will be supported during the construction phase of the project and anticipates an additional 1,200 direct jobs once the development is operational.
