Emergency services are tackling a huge fire in St Albans that sent thick smoke billowing into the sky and across the city.

The blaze broke out at around 11am on an industrial estate close to the city centre off London Road, by the junction with Orient Close.

A fire service spokesperson confirmed it started in a car workshop that was totally ablaze when crews arrived.

Work is ongoing to limit the spread to neighbouring commercial properties.
