Around 900 bus workers in Herts, Beds and Cambs will go on strike over pay with “severe disruption” expected.

Arriva workers' industrial action will be between 3am on Monday, September 5, and 3am on September 7, Unite has confirmed.

Drivers, admin staff, engineers, cleaners and shunters were balloted after the company offered pay rises between four and six per cent.

The union blasted the “pay cut disguised as a rise”, with inflation currently running at over 10 per cent and warnings this week that it could reach 18 per cent next year.

Unite regional officer Jeff Hodge said: “Strikes will cause severe disruption across the region.

"This will be entirely Arriva’s fault for offering a pay cut disguised as a rise while our members are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis."

An Arriva spokesperson said: "We remain focused on offering a fair and affordable pay deal, as well as ensuring our vital bus services and networks are sustainable across the Region.

"We will update when there’s news."

A Hertfordshire County Council spokesperson said: “We hope that the dispute between Arriva and its drivers can be resolved as soon as possible, so that disruption to local bus services can be avoided.”
