A speed bump has been installed after several recent crashes and fears over "dangerous" speeding near a school.

Following complaints over speeding along Windsor Road, a speedbump was installed yesterday (March 22) in a bid to improve safety.

The road is next to Southwold Road, where Parkgate Junior School is, and is used by parents and children. It is also used as a rat run to avoid North Watford traffic, according to councillor Asif Khan.

The Labour county councillor says people living in the road have complained about speeding and several separate crashes in recent years, including two that “smashed” a home’s wall in 2018 and 18 months ago.

One resident described the road as “highly dangerous” for the children crossing. They welcomed the work but feared it might not be enough on its own, as drivers might still speed in other parts of the road.

A 20-mph zone was already put in place in the area but apparently this still wasn’t enough to bring speeds down.

The hump, funded out of Cllr Khan's highways budget, is about five metres from the junction with Sandringham Road.
