Two men were detained after they were seen arguing in Watford high street - with one allegedly armed with a metal pole.
A Herts Police officer encountered the row outside Primark at around 9.50am on Saturday, August 17, a spokesperson for the force said.
He drew his taser as one of the men was armed with a metal pole, but did not discharge it while he detained the pair until more officers arrived.
A 27-year-old man from Edgware was then arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon.
An eyewitness praised the officer for singlehandedly detaining both men: “From Tesco, we heard him shout ‘get down!’ and saw him standing bravely with a taser pointing it alternately at them."

A second officer who was also armed with a taser then arrived, they added.
The arrested man from London was taken into custody and detained under the mental health act, before being released on bail while enquiries continue.
