This town-house hotel is now owned by an American company but it has retained the name it had since it opened around 50 years ago.
The Watford Observer is delighted to share pictures from the archive at Watford Museum and this week we look back at the White House Hotel.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “This distinctive building is the White House Hotel at 27-31 Upton Road and photographed for the Watford Observer in April 1986.
“These buildings were originally private homes but by the late 1930s, 27 was a dentist, 29 was Whitefriars School and 31, a doctor's surgery.
“The school became a nursery for a brief period but by the 1960s, 29 had become a private hotel named Langley House; still with a dentist and doctor's surgery on either side.
“The White House Hotel opened in the early 1970s at 27-29 and number 31 was added at a later date.”
