Residents have complained of an “unholy” smell as they claimed sewage was running down their street.
Photos have emerged online of a brown liquid trickling for tens of metres down New Park Drive, Hemel Hempstead, this morning following the heavy rain last week and over the weekend.
One resident suggested it was due to ongoing works by Affinity Water in the adjoining Leverstock Green Road, adding: "We have a stream of sewage water running down New Park Drive now, the smell is unholy!”
A spokesperson for Affinity Water said: "We experienced a burst main on Leverstock Green Road yesterday, affecting clean water supply but not sewerage. I can now confirm that the issue has now been fully repaired."
Muj Shah, who lives opposite the roadworks in Leverstock Green Road, said: "I can smell the sewage, horrible smell.
"It's flowing out of where they're digging, and due to the decline away from the dual carriageway it's flowing down Leverstock Green Road and into New Park Drive."

The road has been closed since September 24 and is due to be lifted today (September 30) according to One Network, although workers were still pictured at the scene this morning.
It is not clear if the liquid pictured is sewage as it is Thames Water which deals with wastewater in the area.
Affinity and Thames Water have been contacted for more information.
