Herts Police have urged motorists to avoid a major route between Watford and St Albans after an "incident".
The A405 is closed near Bricket Wood while one northbound lane of the M1 is also blocked, where it meets the road.
Residents have reported seeing multiple police cars, fire engines, and ambulances near the scene after being forced to take an alternative route.

A police spokesperson said: "We are currently dealing with a road traffic incident on the A405 North Orbital Road near Bricket Wood, St Albans.
"We would ask you to please avoid the area at this time - 9pm Wednesday, October 16 - as the A405 is closed in both directions, along with one lane of the M1 northbound.
"Thank you."
Herts Fire and Rescue have confirmed they were contacted by police regarding a crash, which involved people becoming trapped and a heavy goods vehicles hitting the central reservation, between M1 junctions 5 and 6 northbound at 8.03pm.
A spokesperson asked the public to allow space for emergency vehicles to get to the scene.
