Police have confirmed that a lorry smashed into a central reservation forcing them to shut a road in Hertfordshire.

The A405 North Orbital Road was blocked near Bricket Wood yesterday evening, alongside one lane of the M1 northbound by the scene, as police asked motorists to "avoid the area".

The force had been called with reports of a one-vehicle crash at 7.51pm. The Volvo lorry driver is believed to have suffered minor injuries after the vehicle hit a central reservation.

The East of England Ambulance Service and Herts Fire and Rescue worked at the scene while the vehicle was removed under the road closures.

A fire service spokesperson confirmed that Herts Police contacted control about a person being trapped after the crash at 8.03pm.

Residents reported seeing multiple police cars, fire engines, and ambulances near the scene after being forced to take an alternative route last night.

The St Albans-bound carriageway was reopened at 11.51pm, with all closures lifted shortly afterwards.

Herts Fire and Rescue have been contacted for more information.
