A child was badly injured and six others were hurt during a crash that shut the A1(M).
Police were called just before 6pm yesterday (Sunday, November 3) to reports of a collision northbound near junction 7 for Stevenage.
Two vehicles were involved – a grey Audi Q5 and a grey Seat Ateca.
The ambulance service also attended and a child was taken to hospital with serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening. Six other people also sustained injuries, not deemed to be serious.
Officers closed the road while the incident was dealt with and it was reopened by around 11.15pm.
Watford traffic misery
Motorists in Watford faced long delays this morning due to emergency gas works taking place near the town centre.
There has been disruption in Hempstead Road since Saturday, with One Network stating further congestion is "likely" until midnight on November 12.
The website says: "Cadent are carrying out emergency gas repair works. These repairs can take time to resolve, but this is to ensure that we continue to provide the safest and most reliable service to our customers."
Hertfordshire Highways alerted residents to the disruption shortly before 8.30am, with a tweet warning of long delays southbound on Hempstead Road, from the A41 to Stratford Lane.
The road, which has West Herts College and Lanchester Primary School on it, has temporary traffic lights as part of the works.
