Kings Langley residents could face chaos this weekend if planned roadworks go ahead, coinciding with the village's annual Christmas lights switch on.

Villagers have expressed concerns after noticing signs informing them of a planned road closure in Langley Hill from November 22-28.

This would see the road closed on Saturday (November 23) for the UK Power Networks (UKNPN)  works - the same day as the lights switch on in High Street.

Annually, Vicarage Lane is closed to make way for the event, sparking fears of double roadworks and a huge diversion for those who live in the area.

Update: A Hertfordshire County Council spokesperson told the Watford Observer:  "UKPN have applied for a permit to undertake works in King’s Langley this week.

"After speaking with UKPN we understand that the works will take place during the week and will be removed in time for the Christmas light switch on at the weekend.”

A permit is yet to be granted for the UKPN works, while Langley Hill is typically used as the diversion route for the usual Vicarage Lane closure.

If works go ahead, residents have voiced fears of a "huge diversion" on the day of the lights switch on.

One social media user has claimed that UKPN are "aware" of the event and do not intend to carry out works this weekend, despite what the signs say.

Another user described the possibility of simultaneous road closures as "total madness".

Both UK Power Networks and Hertfordshire County Council have been contacted for further information.
