An eyewitness reported seeing numerous people outside the Premier Inn off Church Wharf along with "15 cars and armed police" at around 9.30pm.
Hertfordshire Constabulary have today (November 26) confirmed they were called alongside Herts Fire and Rescue and the East of England Ambulance Service to concerns for a man's welfare.

A police spokesperson said: "This was an isolated incident involving one person, a man in his 50s.
"A fire was contained by colleagues in the fire service within the hotel. The man was taken to hospital following the incident and officers were treated for minor smoke inhalation."
Police have been asked for clarification on whether armed police were present.
Social media users reported seeing emergency services vehicles around the hotel as late as 10.30pm.
