An organisation representing the interests of local businesses has sponsored a secondary school for their recent successful “arts specialist status” bid.
Gary Lewis, headteacher at Kings Langley School is said to be “delighted” with the £5,000 donation received from West Herts Chamber of Commerce.
One of the school’s achievements since the announcement of the specialist status, is its success in the Rock Challenge national final.
Rock Challenge is a huge part of the school’s year where students are expected to commit to regular exercise and extra-curricular dance classes, improving personal fitness and challenging themselves to try new things.
The school, in Love Lane has officially been recognised by the Be Your Best Foundation and Global Rock Challenge as being the healthiest school in the UK.
The award was judged by an independent panel following the school’s success in the national dance and drama competition where they came first in the regional heats.
The choreographers, who are all students themselves, have devised a warm-up routine that they run before every rehearsal.
In addition to the dancing, the school uses the Rock Challenge anti-drugs, smoking and drink messages.
