Pupils at a Watford primary school have launched a campaign against bullying.

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, in Ainsdale Road, organised a three day workshop for its students to raise awareness for National Anti-Bullying Week, during which children worked “tremendously hard” to design a set of stickers to highlight the issues confronted by the week.

These stickers will now be sent out to every primary school, special school and educational support centre in Hertfordshire.

“The imaginative stickers are helping to raise awareness that young people don’t have to suffer in silence,” said Karin Hutchinson, Hertfordshire County Council’s anti-bullying advisor.

“We take bullying very seriously and want to drive the message home that bullying is always wrong.”

National Anti-Bullying Week begins on Monday and aims to provide a variety of schemes to encourage people to speak out if they feel they are being bullied.

Several secondary schools are also expected to take part, with pupils compiling CDs containing their opinions about what adults should be doing to prevent bullying. County Councillor Keith Emsall added that bullying was “unacceptable” and emphasised how it “casts a blight over young lives”.
