A British National Party councillor has spoken of his anger after he and fellow party colleagues were named on a leaked membership list.

The list, which includes the names, addresses, and contact details of party members, was leaked to a political website and published yesterday.

Party members have since complained of threatening and abusive calls and emails from political opponents.

Seamus Dunne, of Carpenders Park, who sits on Three Rivers District Council, said he feared for the safety of his wife and children.

He said: “I’m not concerned about myself – just my wife and family. My details are already a matter of public record so people can contact me at any time if they want to.

“I’m just worried that this will encourage extremists to do something stupid.”

Party colleagues, he added, feared for their jobs and livelihoods The list, seen by the Watford Observer, contains the details of 28 Watford residents and a further eight from Rickmansworth and Croxley Green.

Mr Dunne, elected in May this year, said: “One of the guys on the list rang me late last night and was absolutely terrified.

“He works in a heavily unionised area and is worried that he will be forced out of his job because of it.

“Everybody is worried about the current economic climate so people are terrified about losing their jobs.

“A lot of people are going to be very scared by this.”

Police in Wales are investigating the publication of the list, which is in breach of Data Protection laws.

Mr Dunne added: “The person who did this should be prosecuted by the full force of the law. I am not doing anything illegal here – I am just trying to serve my community.”
