Police chiefs are meeting this morning ahead of a parade in Watford featuring more than 200 soldiers.

Angry scenes confronted the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Anglian Regiment, when their homecoming parade in Luton was marred by anti-war protestors yesterday.

The troop, known as The Poachers, will take part of the Freedom of the Borough march in Watford today, to mark their return from a six-month tour in Iraq.

But police said they have “no intelligence” to suggest yesterday's volatile scenes will be repeated.

A Hertfordshire police representative said: “We're going to police the march like any other march. We're not aware of any intelligence around any local groups coming to protest at this stage.”

The soldiers will set off from Lower High Street at 12.30pm, making their way along the High Street and finishing in The Parade, where they will be dismissed and attend a civic reception.

They will be inspected along the route by Councillor Jan Brown, Chairman of Watford Borough Council, outside St Mary's Church.
